What an excellent and thought-provoking essay—thank you! The more I read your article, the more I felt it was less about the risks of AI abdication and more about the danger of losing touch with one’s soul. Life is complex and difficult, filled with countless forces that compete to come between us and our right to freedom. Many of these forces have long been celebrated—and rightly so—for they are often a net positive for society when consumed in moderation.

What’s particularly fascinating about AI, and what you capture so eloquently here, is how we now seem to stand at the very apex of this dilemma between augmentation—what helps us become better versions of ourselves—and abdication—what causes us to lose ourselves.

Thoroughly enjoyed and took great comfort in this exploration of augmentation vs. abdication in the realm of writing, reasoning, and creativity--particularly in the observation that "A person who only thinks with AI is like a person who only travels by car. Functional and efficient, yet fragile. When the car breaks down, they do not know how to walk." Hope my colleagues in training/teaching/learning will take the time to read it, reflect upon it, and think about how to effectively incorporate the ideas into their own work.
